Delegate Herring Works to Improve Roads to Alleviate Congestion Due to BRAC-133 Project
Delegate Herring is trying to get the necessary funds to improve roads as the opening of the BRAC-133 Project at Mark Center approaches.
Delegate Charniele Herring (VA-46) spoke to a House of Delegates Appropriations subcommittee regarding her Budget Amendment requesting $17 million over the course of the next two years to fund necessary road improvements to keep the Northern Virginia area, especially Alexandria and the surrounding communities, from facing outright gridlock in the wake of the opening of the BRAC-133 Project at Mark Center.
“There are still unresolved questions on what needs to be paid from the federal government and why the Commonwealth should not bear the burden of the cost of these transportation projects; however, we cannot let the people of Northern Virginia suffer while we can take preventative measures to ensure that the flow of traffic is as safe and efficient as possible,” says Herring, “Commuters will face certain gridlock as we add an enormous amount of traffic to an already overburdened transportation system.”
Herring filed comprehensive budget amendment requesting money to fund projects that include widening Seminary Road and northbound Beauregard Street as well as widening several on-ramps and off –ramps allowing better access to I-395. Delegate Adam Ebbin (VA-49) and Delegate David Englin (VA-45) have cosponsored her budget amendment.
Delegate Herring is also a cosponsor with Delegate Ebbin on budget amendment working to create additional mass transit options to the site including street cars.
